File formats
We can accept most file types. We use the CorelDRAW X6 design suite so any Corel files are acceptable as long as we have the same fonts which have been used by the creator.

For all non – Corel files we prefer files to be converted to PDF for printing. Converting your file to PDF virtually eliminates all problems dealing with files across platforms (such as from Windows machines to Macintosh). It also eliminates the problems with changing from one printer to another (these problems frequently occur with software such as WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Publisher), and when created correctly eliminates the requirement of supplying the fonts that you have used in your job.

If you are supplying a file in original format just so we can copy and paste certain elements then converting to PDF may not be necessary.

SUBMITTING ARTWORK

When submitting your own artwork you basically have 4 options; email direct, upload file via our quick quote page, upload file using an online large file transfer site or simply bring the file directly to us on cd, usb drive, memory stick etc.

Before submitting any artwork you may find it to your advantage to phone us to confirm that what you will be supplying will be print ready or you can simply look through the various resource pages for more information.

When you send us your own artwork, you are responsible for the end result of printing. It is also your responsibility to ensure that any design that is submitted is not in violation of any copyright laws. We assume that your artwork is legally yours. Also note that certain files can change from one computer to another. See our file formats section for more information.

All fonts in your artwork need to be “converted to outlines/paths” or “flattened” into a graphic. Failure to do so means that during the transition from artwork development to print your fonts may alter without warning.

All files must have:
– at least 3mm bleed
– no critical content within 5mm of any edge
– pics and images supplied at 300dpi minimum
– all fonts flattened or converted to outlines/paths

BLEED

The term bleed is used for all objects overlapping the border of your document. If any element on your document layout makes contact with the document border you will have to use bleed. The trick is to place the element so that it goes over the border where the document will be cropped after printing. This means that when the document has finished printing and is ready to be trimmed it will be printed right to the edge of the document without a white unprinted border.

For example if you’re working on a brochure with images against the sides of your pages. You’ll supply us with a document somewhat larger than the final document will be (3mm bigger on every edge preferably).

Two kinds of bleed
Bleed can be a full bleed or partial bleed. With a full bleed you have objects running off your document on all sides. With a partial bleed you’ll have a couple of elements running off the document.

Critical content
Critical content refers to any element of your document that you definitely don’t want to be trimmed off. To avoid this from happening our designers never put critical content any closer to an edge than 5mm and we suggest you do the same. This means that when your 3mm (at least) of bleed is trimmed off you should still have a 5mm (at least) margin between the edge of the card and the start of any critical content.

COLOUR VARIATIONS

Colour variations means there may be slight changes in colour from what you have seen on screen, to the printed copy. This is the nature of the print industry.

If you print a proof on your own printer, keep in mind that depending upon the manufacturer of printing equipment, colours may vary slightly due to different ink used. We cannot be held responsible for colour variations, as it is beyond our control and we will not reprint at our expense as a result of such variations.

There can be a colour variation from run to run also, this may result in slight alterations in the colouring for repeat orders. The best way to maintain consistency is to request a printed colour proof. From the proof we can make alterations until you are happy with the colours.

PROOF READING

To put it simply our designers are human and they live and breathe design. Unfortunately the world of design doesn’t always cross over into the world of good english – always check spelling and grammar!

If we make a poor design judgement or make a mistake on a design we will take full responsiblity unless you have confirmed the proof and given the go ahead.

We will attempt to spot any obvious errors on your artwork (design, spelling, grammar, etc), but ultimately, it is your responsibility to accept the final proof. We will not be liable for any errors after accepting the proof reads. It is your responsibility to ask for another proof if you find it difficult to read. When we provide you with an email proof, this is an indication of the final result, as colour variation may occur.

If you are supplying your own artwork or bulk text for us to place in to a design then the responsibility is on you to ensure all spelling and grammar is correct.
